In 1997, she started acting when she was 13 years old. At the age of 13, Vandervoort made her debut on stage as an actor at age 13. After attending several classes in background work and acting for Canadian programs like Road to Avonlea or Harriet the Spy she landed her voice in the Canadian kids horror anthology Goosebumps. There were commercials too as well as guest starring in films like Mutant X and Prom Queen: The Marc Hall Story. Goosebumps was also a aspect of her professional career. Then, in 2006 Vandervoort was in her debut film, a feature titled The Lookout alongside Jeff Daniels, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Matthew Goode, and Isla Fisher. Several other television appearances including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation have led Vandervoort to be cast as Clark Kent's Kryptonian counterpart "Kara Kent" (the girl who was to be Supergirl) on The CW serial drama series Smallville. [2][3][5][8] She was a regular on the show in season seven and was on"Bloodline," season eight's "Bloodline" episode in season eight. 3. In the tenth season and final episode Smallville in the tenth season, she was able for two more episodes. 4. Following The CW and Smallville, Vandervoort filmed the sequel of the film Into the Blue titled Into the Blue 2: The Reef.
