Jessica Chastain

Jessica Michelle Chastain, born March 24, 1977, is an American actress. She is well-known for her roles in films that feature feminist themes. She has been the recipient of numerous awards such as an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential persons in the world in 2012. Chastain started acting as a child. In 1998 she made her professional debut on stage in the role of Shakespeare's Juliet. She studied acting at Juilliard School and was then signed to a contract for talent-holding with John Wells, a television producer. She appeared as frequent guest on several television series as well as starring in many stage productions. Chastain's first film appearance was in Jolene (2008) when she was 31 years old. In 2011, Chastain achieved her breakthrough by releasing six films including The Tree of Life (2011), Take Shelter (2011) as well as The Tree of Life (2012). Chastain received Academy Award nominations for playing an aspirational socialite in the period drama The Help (2011) and an CIA analyst in the suspense thriller Zero Dark Thirty (2012). The science fiction films Interstellar (2014), The Martian (2015) and It Chapter Two (2018) were more commercially successful. Chastain's strong-willed roles in dramas A Most Valuable Year (2014), Miss Sloane (2016), Molly's Game (2017) and Scenes from a Marriage (2021) were also highly acclaimed.
